Mausloeum of Galla Placidia
The Mausoleum of Galla Placidia, built in 425 A.D., with its unique early Christian mosaics, is one of the eight amazing UNESCO World Heritage sites in the city of Ravenna.
Marco Bravura is an internationally renowned artist from Ravenna, best known for his mosaic works and sculptures.
He was born in Ravenna in 1949 and, after graduating from the State Institute of Mosaic Art in Ravenna, he completed his art training at the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice, where he lived and worked for several years. After a long period of travelling, he returned to Ravenna, where he opened a mosaic studio in 1987.
Bravura brings the ancient tradition of early Christian-Byzantine mosaic in Ravenna into the contemporary. He founded a Mosaic School in the city of Beirut, with a collaboration protocol with the Municipality of Ravenna and the Professional Training Centre of the Province of Ravenna.
He won 1st prize at the Biennale d’Arte Romagnola mosaic section in 1998. He has exhibited in numerous exhibitions in Italy and abroad, including the Venice Biennale (2011) and the 4th Moscow Biennale of Contemporary Art. His works can be found in museums, various institutions, banks and private collections in Europe, Russia and the USA.
He lives and works between Moscow and Ravenna.
