The new skin of the disused fountain at the Rocca Brancalone is decorated with trencadìs. A technique in which glass, ceramic and irregularly cutted tiles are juxtaposed in order to create vibrant colour effects. It echoes the traditional ceramic mosaic of Muslim populations.

Artwork

Inside the Rocca Brancaleone, in 2023 – on the occasion of the 8th edition of the Biennial Contemporary Mosaic Exhibition–the mosaic Gironi Danteschi was inaugurated. It celebrates mosaic and Dante Alighieri, the two pillars of the culture of Ravenna. Gironi Danteschi is the new skin, in trencadìs, i.e. ceramic mosaic, of the 1980s fountain converted into a flowerbed. The shape of three horizontally intersecting circles evoked to artist and mosaicist Anna Agati the three canticles of the Divine Comedy. Agati reworked William Blake’s illustrations, allowing us to travel through the reds and blacks of Hell, the greys of Purgatory and the whites and blues of Paradise.
It was created by Anna Agati in collaboration with the Fine Arts Academy of Ravenna –Lorenzo Baruzzi, Daniela Guzzinati, Anna De Luca, Parisa Dehghani and Marica Zanga – Arch. Tito Palmieri and the Amata Brancaleone Aps Association. It is a collective artwork gifted to the city, in one of its most beloved parks.
