Mausloeum of Galla Placidia
The Mausoleum of Galla Placidia, built in 425 A.D., with its unique early Christian mosaics, is one of the eight amazing UNESCO World Heritage sites in the city of Ravenna.
On the occasion of the 9th Biennial of Contemporary Mosaic, Palazzo Rasponi dalle Teste is hosting the exhibitions by artists Shahzia Sikander and Omar Mismar, curated by Serena Simoni and Daniele Torcellini in collaboration with the Valentina Bonomo Gallery in Rome. The exhibitions aim to explore the role of mosaics in contemporary artistic practices that address crucial issues related to identity, politics and social tensions today.
Shahzia Sikander (1969, Pakistan) reinterprets the visual traditions of South Asia through a contemporary perspective, using a variety of languages – from painting to drawing, from printmaking to digital animation, to mosaic, sculpture and glass.
