Mausloeum of Galla Placidia
The Mausoleum of Galla Placidia, built in 425 A.D., with its unique early Christian mosaics, is one of the eight amazing UNESCO World Heritage sites in the city of Ravenna.
Luciana Notturni’s Officina del Mosaico was established in 1970. It deals with the restoration of ancient and contemporary mosaics, copies of ancient mosaics, translations of artists’ cartoons, design works and personal projects.
Luciana Notturni studied at the Istituto Statale d’Arte per il Mosaico ‘G. Severini’ in Ravenna, obtaining the diplomas of master of art and maturity in applied art. In 1970, she founded the Studio Officina del Mosaico, beginning her career as a mosaicist, assisted by Marco De Luca and Paolo Racagni. Her works can be found both in Italy and abroad, from the USA to Canada, from New Zealand to Australia. She collaborated with Alessandro Mendini, Studio Alchimia, film director Michelangelo Antonioni and artists such as Vasco Bendini. Many of her works are now exhibited at the MAR – Ravenna Art Museum. All of her mosaics have as their common root a profound knowledge of antiquity, the result of his participation in the restoration of Ravenna’s early Christian-Byzantine heritage.
In 1998 she founded the ‘Scuola Artistica del Mosaico’ (Artistic School of Mosaics) in his own workshop, where she teaches the Ravenna mosaic technique to people from all over the world. For over twenty years she has been teaching and has collaborated with the Albe Steiner Professional Training Centre, the Fine Arts Academy of Ravenna, and the Mosaic Restoration School of the Superintendence for Architectural Heritage of Ravenna.
Her workshop can be visited by appointment.
