Marco De Luca

Born in Medicina (BO) in 1949, De Luca graduated from the Istituto Statale d’Arte per il Mosaico in Ravenna. In 1969, he was awarded the first INA-Touring International Student Prize for painting in Milan. In 1973 he graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Bologna. During these years, he collaborated permanently with Carlo Signorini’s ‘Il Mosaico’ workshop in Ravenna, where he had the opportunity to work with great artists such as Mušič, Dorazio and Turcato. After numerous successes in the field of painting, he took up mosaic again in the late 1970s, and he chose it as his main medium of expression. In his artistic career, the mosaic language merges with sculpture and painting.
Starting in the 1980s, his innovative approach to mosaic technique manifested itself in the total abandonment of cardboard, thus breaking with the mosaic tradition of Ravenna. From the late 1970s to 2002, he taught painting at the Gino Severini Mosaic Art Institute and held the mosaic workshop at the Fine Arts Academy of Ravenna.
In addition to his personal and design projects and collaborations with other artists such as Arnaldo Pomodoro, De Luca has also been involved in the restoration of the ancient mosaics of the Domus dei Tappeti di Pietra. His works are exhibited in various museums, private collections and institutions in Italy and abroad.
