Mausloeum of Galla Placidia
The Mausoleum of Galla Placidia, built in 425 A.D., with its unique early Christian mosaics, is one of the eight amazing UNESCO World Heritage sites in the city of Ravenna.
The CaCO3 group was founded in 2006 on the initiative of Âniko Ferreira da Silva (Ravenna, Italy, 1976), Giuseppe Donnaloia (Martina Franca, Italy, 1976) and Pavlos Mavromatidis (Kavala, Greece, 1979), who share and develop a common artistic research with a focus on mosaic, in which ancient and contemporary are grafted together in the search for new formal perspectives.
The poetics of CaCO3 is the constant research for new possible relationships between light and matter. The practice of traditional technique and direct contact with mosaic works of the past, matured during the years of study at the School for Mosaic Restoration in Ravenna, together with the experience of working in restoration sites, have contributed to the reflection on the formal aspects of mosaic and their reworking in an artistic key.
CaCO3 participates in numerous exhibitions and national and international fairs, collaborating with various galleries, between art and design. It also cooperates with many studios in the architectural field, creating works on commission.
CaCO3 Studio can be visited from Monday to Friday 9 a.m.-1 p.m./14 p.m.-4 p.m. or by telephone appointment.
