Ancient Port of Classe

The archaeological site of the Ancient Port of Classe, opened in 2015, is located in Classe, a small town near Ravenna.
It is the ideal place to understand Ravenna’s connection with the sea–an area of 10,000 square metres where you can breathe in the atmosphere of the ancient port between the 5th and 6th centuries AD. Thanks to several archaeological excavation campaigns, since after the Second World War, the site returned the structure and foundations of the ancient warehouses, docks and roads of the port.
The port of Classe was one of the most active in the Roman Empire: a crossroads of goods, people and a place of cultural exchange.
A visit to the site, either free or guided, provides a deeper insight into the history of the city.
Thanks to interactive panels and reconstructions, it allows you to contextualise the many artefacts found in the area now on display at the Classis Museum.
