Mausloeum of Galla Placidia
The Mausoleum of Galla Placidia, built in 425 A.D., with its unique early Christian mosaics, is one of the eight amazing UNESCO World Heritage sites in the city of Ravenna.
Opening: Thursday 23 April at 5.30 pm
The second edition of the Micro&Macro project returns three years on, coinciding with the 30th anniversary of the UNESCO designation of the Ravenna site.
The Micro&Macro: indossare Ravenna project took shape in the workshops of the Academy of Fine Arts in Ravenna, as part of the curriculum for the second year of the two-year ‘Mosaic Decoration’ course. Its continuation, Micro & Macro: tramandare Ravenna, stems from the extracurricular teaching of the first year of the new three-year Jewellery Design course, the only one among Italy’s twenty-five Academies of Fine Arts to offer a course of study specifically dedicated to jewellery. The new project, carried out in collaboration with eight students from the Jewellery Design course, is a source of great pride for the Academy. As a token of gratitude to the city known as the capital of mosaics, the aim was to celebrate the legacy of its monuments for future generations and its multiculturalism. On display are aluminium bracelets and necklaces decorated with brass settings embellished with ‘micromosaic’.
Designers: Anna Agati, Giovanni Amadori, Eleonora Ancarani, Sara Casalboni, Debora Dell’Aquila, Alice La Franca, Tudor Padurean, Shuyi Qiu.
